Portable oxygen generators

Like other systems, the more the flow, the less the oxygen lasts but it is easy to refill these cylinders. However generally, oxygen cylinders are likely to get exhausted before other forms of portable oxygen generators.

When gaseous oxygen is compressed to low temperatures, it changes to liquid. It is precisely this liquid oxygen that's stored in portable oxygen tanks. This liquid form of oxygen allows for storing more of it than could be stored inside a concentrator.

Portable oxygen cylinders are one of the older supplemental oxygen delivery systems. Here is how they work. Purified oxygen is placed in an aluminum cylinder. You will have ample choices for cylinder sizes according to your need. Those needing a lesser amount of PVC pipe can do with the easily transportable 4 pound cylinder. If you want extra oxygen you can get the 8.5 pound size.

Different types of portable oxygen generators

There are different types of portable oxygen generators that individuals can buy to use in or out of the home. Many of the portable oxygen generators have some sort of carrying device, whether it is a small cart on which to pull the tank of oxygen, or if it is a strap to carry the tank under the arm, these generators make it much easier for those who have to be on oxygen to still be on the go, actively participating in life.

However, these systems usually cannot provide a high flow of oxygen and are very noisy and electricity intensive to run. In addition, these systems are shut down when there are power surges or outages which can be life threatening for the individual if he does not have a back up method of oxygen supply.

There are some systems that are used primarily in the home, generating oxygen from the oxygen that is in the air of the home. These are called oxygen concentrating systems since they pull the oxygen that is in the air and concentrate it into a PVC pipe which the individual can hook into through a mask or a nasal cannula. These systems are nice because the individual will not run out of air like they will with tanks that have to be refilled.

A larger version of the home oxygen generators

These units are a larger version of the home oxygen generators we have commonly seen in clients' homes. A smaller military version called POGS (portable oxygen generator) can deliver 33 lpm at 50 psig.

Commonly found in remote hospitals and in many portable military hospitals, large portable oxygen generators deliver large volumes of high purity oxygen requiring only electrical power. With some units, built-in generators ensure that the units are totally self-contained and highly portable.

These units are excellent choices for small MCI situations or when used in multiples to meet the progressive demands of the ac generators. Oxygen generators are an excellent choice for managing MCI or oxygen loss in a hospital.

A role that oxygen generators has begun to usurp

The airline industry alone uses cylinders for about 350 tasks, including providing emergency air to passengers, a role that oxygen generators has begun to usurp.

Laser Gas' PSA oxygen generators produce up to 99%-pure oxygen, ideal use in hospitals, for example. The company's PSA for nitrogen generators can achieve a maximum purity of 99.9999%, which is much higher than cylinder gas. The cost of gas produced by these systems is a fraction of the cost of cylinder gas. An even more valuable benefit however, is the capability to produce gas onsite, making a facility independent of outside suppliers.

Despite the burst of attention paid to oxygen generators because of their alleged role, it is really gas cylinders--totally different and considerably bigger and older than PVC pipe--that are center stage at the Research and Special Projects Administration.

Oxygen generators aboard the airplanes are harmless

After the crash happened, some blamed the oxygen generators as a possible cause of the explosion and of the fire, but experts sustain that oxygen generators and canisters that are aboard the airplanes are harmless if they are handled correctly, and that it is very unlikely that oxygen generators caused the explosion, but not impossible.

It is known that once a fire is started, it need oxygen to continue burning, so the only real harm that oxygen generators can do is to fuel an already started, burning fire.

Since a major airplane crash took place, with over one hundred victims, people have been questioning the safety of the emergency oxygen generators aboard. These oxygen generators are placed in airplanes because in case there's a pressure drop the passengers must breathe through special masks connected to the PVC pipe.

An option for portable nitrogen generator

An option for portable nitrogen generator is the liquid oxygen system. One of the advantages is that it allows the user to be much more mobile than the other types do, and also that it is relatively quiet, and doesn't make much noise. However, one of the biggest downfalls is that the large tank will need to be refilled quite often, so plan for this.

Always seek the advice of your medical professional before you purchase any oxygen delivery system. But now that you know the basics, you'll be better prepared to participate in that decision.

A fourth oxygen delivery system is one which you will likely choose to stay away from. This system makes use of oxygenated water. This is because despite the fact that upright piano is extracted from H2O, oxygenated water contains the lowest oxygen supply when compared to the other portable oxygen equipment. That's why whether you need oxygen for a medical condition or just for a sporting activity, other systems are a much better selection.

Nitrogen generator can be great on a long trip

The flow setting will also determine how long your concentrator will work. Batteries needless to say will sooner or later run out, so it is a good idea to keep a spare pair with you at all times. Nitrogen generator can be great on a long trip or at any social gathering. And as technology advances the units keep lasting for a longer time and getting smaller, making them all the more portable.

If you're looking for a portable oxygen generator you'll find lots of different designs, but you'll notice mainly three systems. The three choices are tanks, cylinders or concentrators. In this short article we are going to get a more in-depth look at these three forms of oxygen generators.

A PVC pipe concentrator works on electricity. Either you need to use rechargeable batteries for them or make use of a plug. The equipment and power supply determines the operation of the concentrator.

The liquid portable oxygen generators are also safer than the compressed systems

The liquid portable oxygen generators are also safer than the compressed systems in most cases since the compressed oxygen tanks are under high pressure and can explode if they are dropped. Both systems have to be refilled at some point by a professional, but the liquid system allows individuals to have a reservoir at home to fill the tank out of and only fill the reservoir once a month or so.

Portable oxygen generators come in two basic types - liquid or compressed oxygen systems. There are advantages to each, although the liquid oxygen system seems to be the most lightweight and convenient system to use on the market today. Both systems allow the individual to transport a lightweight container of oxygen with them, which they use through a mask or a nasal cannula. Both systems can provide high levels of oxygen to the individual and supply it for hours at a time.

The compressed portable oxygen generator usually has to be pulled on a cart made for the PVC pipe behind the individual, which can get in the way of activities. The liquid system can be carried by a strap under the arm or even attached to the body with some extremely lightweight systems.

The option of an oxygen generators

By taking a careful look at each one of your options here, you are going to be able to best determine just which one is going to be right for you. You need oxygen to live and so of course you want to make sure, if you require oxygen generators, that you are going to have it delivered to yourself in the best, most efficient way possible.

For a portable oxygen generator there is the option of an oxygen concentrator system. A few of the advantages include that it requires only minimal maintenance, does not need to be refilled which offers more convenience, and it provides an unlimited oxygen supply.

Disadvantages include that PVC pipe cannot deliver oxygen at high flow rates, is affected by power surges and outages, and requires electricity.

the most common oxygen generators types

One of the most common oxygen generators types are the compressed oxygen. There are quite a few different advantages offered here, namely that the small, lightweight, portable tanks are able to be used for trips outside the home, and that several tanks can be used to increase the time away from home. Now one of the main disadvantages of the compressed oxygen tanks is that since the oxygen is stored under pressure here, the tank can be hazardous if it is dropped.

There are a few different aspects that you need to take into consideration when you are trying to decide on a portable oxygen generator. This way you can make sure that you are getting the right oxygen generator for you because after all everyone is different and so one may be better for you than another.

In order to properly determine which  PVC pipe is going to be best in your case, you need to weigh out the advantages and disadvantages of each.

the annoyance of oxygen generators

If additional nitrogen demand appears in the future, one of the great things about cable protection pipe is that with their modular design in most cases the supply of gas can be simply and cost effectively expanded by adding membrane modules to an existing system.

If your business could benefit from a nitrogen generator, it is strongly recommended to start looking into nitrogen generators as they are extremely productive and reasonable. One type of generator in particular that your business may benefit from is the Membrane Nitrogen Generator. Nitrogen gas generators come in various types in order to accommodate individual business' needs.

With Membrane Nitrogen Generators, the annoyance of oxygen generators and liquid dewars is eliminated. Nitrogen is generated on-site in a continuous and reliable manner that requires only a supply of compressed air.Membrane technology generators are a great addition to any business as they produce a continuous supply of gaseous nitrogen. These compact units are ideally suited for low-flow applications that use high-pressure gas cylinders or dewars of nitrogen.

PSA Process for Nitrogen Generation

One of the most popular application of Pressure Swing Adsorption or P S A Technology is in the operation of Nitrogen Generators. This Process is based on the selective adsorption phenomena of gas molecules. In this case it is carbon based Molecular Sieve (C. M. S.) The process works like this, in Pressure Swing Adsorption system as soon as compressed air is entered through an adsorption tower filled with Carbon molecular sieve the molecules of gases like oxygen, moisture & other undesired gases are adsorbed on surface of the adsorbent. While Nitrogen that is not adsorbed passes out of adsorption tower.
It is then collected in a surge vessel. For continuous flow of nitrogen two Adsorption towers are installed. They are interconnected with Auto change over valves. These Auto change over valves are controlled by PLC in the control panel. As the saturation of one tower with oxygen gets completed, in built mechanism makes the process automatically switch to another tower and thus the nitrogen production remains continuous. Nitrogen has a wide range of industrial application primarily to reduce or eliminate altogether oxidation in raw material and food processing. Additional usages can include medical, tyre-filling, swimming pool, sanitation, photo development, etc. In effect it means where oxidation is a problem then a Nitrogen system is the solution.

Key features of PSA Nitrogen Generator:

There are an enormous number of variety available depending on the user's requirements of purity, space constraints, economics etc. A brief of the features that a PSA Nitrogen Gas Generator incorporates is given below:

Purity: 99.5% purity nitrogen can be produced at rates as low as 200 Standard Cubic Feet per hour (5 Nm3/h) or as high as around 1000 Nm3/hr (38,000 Standard cubic feet per hour). Also Nitrogen at purity of 99.999% can be effectively produced by a two-step process. That involves a 99.5% purity PSA combined with a "de-oxo" unit that reduces residual oxygen to the required level.

Delivery pressures: Typically delivery pressures can come in the range of 6 to 7 Bar(g) (87 to 102 pounds per square inch of pressure. More higher pressures are also obtained with the aid of booster compressors like pressures upto to 240 barg (3500 psig).

Bed type: Mono-Bed nitrogen gas generator the flowrate ranges from 200 SCFH - 1000 SCFH @ 99.5% nitrogen purity, while the Dual bed comes with flowrates of 1200 SCFH to 6000 SCFH @ 99.5% nitrogen purity.

Wide range of dew points: Can range from: - 45oC to 600oC

What are Nitrogen Generators?

Nitrogen generators are available with a multitude of different features and qualities. Some nitrogen generators available on the market, for example, require little or no maintenance after installation. Others include safety shut-off buttons and alarms. To eliminate the possibility of damage, the filter in nitrogen generators should be regularly changed. For proper maintenance, these air filters should be changed every year, and the oxygen sensor should be changed every two years.

The latest technology in nitrogen generators is the use of cryogenic air distillation, which is used to PSA generate nitrogen. With this method, the air is compressed and then purified within the nitrogen generator. Later, it is cooled with a special cooling unit.

Since the air runs through nitrogen generators, it runs through several filters. This process causes the air to become purified and to cool down even more. The oxygen and nitrogen are then separated within the oxygen liquid. The oxygen stays at the bottom, while the nitrogen remains on top.

The entire process allows nitrogen generators to replenish themselves automatically with no manual input. This is achieved by way of the low temperature within the nitrogen generators, which mixes a small amount of liquid nitrogen into the nitrogen that is already produced.

Nitrogen generators are easily installed and calibrated. Before purchasing a nitrogen generator, one must first check the air compressor to see if it provides the required volume of clean compressed air in order for the generator to work successfully.

molecular sieve

A molecular sieve is a material containing tiny pores of a precise and uniform size that is used as an adsorbent for gases and liquids.

Molecules small enough to pass through the pores are adsorbed while larger molecules are not. It is different from a common filter in that it operates on a molecular level. For instance, a water molecule may not be small enough to pass through while the smaller molecules in the gas pass through. Because of this, they often function as a desiccant. A molecular sieve can adsorb water up to 22% of its own weight.

Often they consist of aluminosilicate minerals, clays, porous glasses, microporous charcoals, zeolites, active carbons, or synthetic compounds that have open structures through which small molecules, such as nitrogen and water can diffuse.

Carbon Molecular Sieve are often utilized in the petroleum industry, especially for the purification of gas streams and in the chemistry laboratory for separating compounds and drying reaction starting materials. The mercury content of natural gas is extremely harmful to the aluminium piping and other parts of the liquefaction apparatus - silica gel is used in this case.

Methods for regeneration of molecular sieves include pressure change (as in oxygen concentrators), heating and purging with a carrier gas (as when used in ethanol dehydration), or heating under high vacuum.
